Starting from this week, new version support system is planned to be introduced. What does it mean and how will it affect us?
The system will have support cycle for every version. Only two last major updates + minor ones will be supported, and three last major ones will be available for downloading. So, before releasing Alpha 0.x+3, Alpha 0.x+1 and Alpha 0.x+2 are supported and available for downloading. Alpha 0.x is also downloadable, but isn’t supported. After releasing Alpha 0.x+3, Alpha 0.x+1 stops being supported and Alpha 0.x can’t be downloaded anymore.
What does support means? If there is an issue or any question, you can report me or ask me here. Issues about supported version only will be answered. It doesn’t mean that Toham Studios is about taking from you the freedom of choice which version to play. Servicing the legacy versions can be very challenging, as Towns ‘n’ Fields has been in development for over two years, and its first version was released in November 2022, so it has a long list of additions, fixes, removals and more.
For example, there is a typical conversation that can arose from using old versions:
– P(layer): Hello! I have a problem: the grass is misrendered! (A screenshot attached)
– S(upport): Hello! It seems that data files are corrupted. Can you, please, send us
res/images/plants/highgrass.pngandres/images/plants/veryhighgrass.pngfiles?P. sends the files
– S.: These files are correct! Did you try to re-download the game?
It occurs to S to ask about the version
– S.: Which version do you use?
– P.: [DELETED]
– S.: Did you try to update?
P. updates to the current version.
– P.: Thank you, the grass is rendered normally!
– S.: You are welcome! Goodbye!
– P.: Goodbye!
Compare with the next conversation:
– P(layer): Hello! I have a problem: the grass is misrendered! (A screenshot attached)
– S(upport): Hello! Which version do you use?
– P.: [DELETED]
– S.: This version isn’t supported. Did you try to update?
P. updates to the current version.
– P.: Thank you, the grass is rendered normally!
– S.: You are welcome! Goodbye!
– P.: Goodbye!
The livecycle system is planned to be introduced when new version is released.
